The switch to water meters could begin in July for North Bay residents.

City Council has some important decisions to make regarding how to charge using the water meters. The recommended option is to have a 60%t fixed rate and 40% variable rate.

Some Councillors believe those numbers should be phased in, and others think those numbers should be flipped around.

Councillor Jeff Serran says they also want to make sure there are cost savings for residents. Serran adds if they aren’t going to save money, then why put in water meters in the first place.

Mayor Al McDonald says they need to get it right the first time. He adds there will be an opportunity for residents to voice their concerns and share ideas with council.

There will be a public meeting and an information session at city hall on April 7th to discuss the rates.
