Newly expanded Jack Garland Airport terminal bringing plenty of benefits

There’s plenty of benefits to the newly renovated terminal building at the Jack Garland Airport.

The $2.2-million project was substantially completed last month and was on budget.

Officials say the new configuration allows the airport to better support current demands and prepare to meet future growth and expanded aviation service in the region.

Mayor Al McDonald says “Our goal is to attract another Air Carrier to our city,”

He goes on to say “This capital investment in our Airport Terminal is part of the overall strategy to build our Aviation and Aerospace sector here in our city.”

Changes were made in the entrance and main lobby area, the expanded holdroom can accommodate over 150 passengers and allows for two airlines to board flights at the same time with the addition of a second gate.

Two fully accessible washrooms were added along with additional space for vending services.

Meantime, there’s additional airline office space and passenger check in counters too.

In a release, Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle says, “Congratulations to the North Bay Jack Garland Airport Corporation on the completion of their newly renovated and expanded terminal,”

He goes on to say, “Our government is proud to have supported this expansion and other projects at the Jack Garland Airport through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund with an investment of more than $3.3-million to date. Certainly this expansion will help the airport meet the growing needs of those who live, work and play in the North Bay region.”

Ewen Cornick, Chair of the North Bay Jack Garland Airport Corporation says, “This significant investment by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, the Municipality, and the Corporation allows the Airport to improve its services to the current operators and the travelling public as well as positioning us to meet anticipated future growth and increased aviation services,” 

Cornick goes on to say, “It’s a strategic ingredient of our combined efforts to attract new business and tenants of the North Bay Jack Garland Airport.”
