Council streamingA couple of years ago City Council set a standard in their by-law to only allow five rental bedrooms within a single housing unit.

A property owner with a home on Paul Street wants to be granted a variance to increase his number of rental bedrooms from five to six.

Mayor Al McDonald says the reason they capped it off at five was because of complaints within the neighbourhood of noise and garbage.

He says they don’t want to get back to that point. McDonald says residents deserve peace and quiet within their neighbourhoods and they heard of all the problems three years ago and this request goes against the by-law which was put in, in 2012.

The report to council’s recommended option is to deny the request from the property owner, and council will vote on that on Monday.
