John Street Bridge

It’s been in a state of much needed repair for many years, and last night (Monday), City Council awarded a contract to fix John Street Bridge.

The City’s bridge inspection program had indicated the bridge’s barrier system, deck supports and abutment walls were not meeting current safety codes.

Chair of Engineering and Works Tanya Vrebosch details the $2-million project will also affect areas around the bridge.

She adds the Kinsmen Trail will go underneath the bridge as part of the restructuring.

Vrebosch says they expect the project to be finished in November and says they needed to do something sooner than later because it was starting to become a safety issues.

She says load restrictions were put on it, in 2008.
