A two day conference with the main theme being health and safety gets underway in Sudbury today (Wednesday).

It’s being put on by Workplace Safety North.

CEO Candys Ballanger-Michaud says an important report on health and safety in underground mines will be delivered to the Minister of Labour who is expected to be in attendance.

She says this report has taken a year to prepare.

Ballanger-Michaud says the safety isn’t where it should be and the best practices should be adopted.

She says this conference is a recognition event as well as mining companies that have excelled in health and safety will be recognized.

Ballanger-Michaud says there will be two guest speakers of note: Dr Linda Duxbury and Kevin Burns. And they’ll be talking about safety training, WSIB claims, occupational lung disease and emergency preparedness.
