A community approach needed to deal with drugs

With North Bay situated along major highways, North Bay Police admit it is a targeted city for drug trafficking.

Deputy Chief Shawn Devine says they need the community to be a part of the solution.

He says “we need the cooperation, first of all with parenting. Teaching your kids about drugs and the dangers of them, even in our own households for some of the prescriptions that we have and ensuring they are locked up. Are they locked up when we have visitors over or when there may be cleaners in the house?“

Devine says they need to bring to continue to bring the experts together so they can combine their approach on finding solutions.

Mayor Al McDonald echoes those comments and says it’s North Bay needs to say no to drugs as a community.

He says “drugs are everywhere, it’s not just North Bay and we have to wake up to that fact. The fact is we want to take a stance.”

McDonald says they need to involve schools, boards and organizations in the community.

Devine says Crime Stoppers is a good tool for people to use if they suspect suspicious activity.
