hockey award2100 Cities throughout Canada will get to experience the Hockey Canada Century Tour.

It’s a miniature Hockey Hall of Fame on Wheels, and it stopped in North Bay over the last two days. As part of the tour they are also recognizing individual volunteers for their contributions to the game in their community.

This is part of the Canadian Tire Hero of Play award, and it was presented to Denyse Lafrance Horning.

She says “It’s a great honour; I don’t think anybody gets involved in minor hockey for the recognition, but certainly this recognition is very special.”

Among many accomplishments, Horning has been involved with the North Bay and District Girls Hockey Association for eight years.

In terms of the Century Tour, Communications Lead Charlotte Coulson says limiting all the accomplishments of Canadian Hockey over 100 years was a tough job.

She says “we did manage to fit a lot and we picked some great elements such as the first ever Canada Olympic jerseys from 1920.”
