farmers-fieldFarming in the region is receiving provincial funding that officials say will improve agricultural land, diversify crops and exand business.

Eight projects around the north are receiving over $6-million  from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

The two projects in our region amounts to over $1.3 million.

Funding is going to the West Nipissing East Sudbury Agricultural Support Projects Inc. First, $1-million is being invested in tile drainage and clearing of land on 1,717 acres.

The second projects involves $328,000 for more tile drainage installation and land clearing on 626 acres.

Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle says “By investing in these operations, our government is helping farmers across the north improve their farmland, increase their crop production and grow the northern economy. “
