Concern about aggregate proposal by the La Vase Portages

The Friends of La Vase Portages are urgently getting the message out on an exploratory mining permit request.

That’s because today (Wednesday April 22nd) is the last day for people to add their comments to the application.

Member Chris Mayne says the request is to open test pits and trenches along the last undeveloped section of the historic Voyageur canoe trail.

That was about 200 years ago.

Mayne says it’s frustrating that other provincial ministries, including Transportation, have been supportive of the portages in previous years.

He says there are concerns expanded aggregate operations will destroy the natural setting of the Upper Portages.
