CKAT-Battalion-GO-TROOPS-621x309 The North Bay Battalion stormed out to a 6-1 win in Game One of the OHL Eastern Conference Finals against the Oshawa Generals.

Here’s Bob Coles with the game recap

For the second straight year the North Bay Battalion took game one of the Eastern Conference Finals by beating the Generals in Oshawa. But unlike last year, the Troops lit up the scoreboard in a 6-1 win.

The Troops fell behind when Michael McCarron opened the scoring at 10:12 of the first.

But the Battalion battled back in the second thanks to rookie Zach Poirier who tallied his first OHL playoff goal at 3:55 of the second.

The Troops beat North Bay native and Generals Goaltender Ken Appleby twice more in the second period. Ray Huether and Nick Paul, on a 2-man shorthanded goal, made it a 3-1 game.

In the third, there was only more offense from the Troops as two goals from Nick Moutrey followed a single goal by Zach Bratina, would pave the way to a 6-1 win.

Battalion goaltender Jake Smith made 30 saves on 31 shots faced.

North Bay went 0/2 on the power play while they were a perfect 7/7 on the penalty kill.

The series resumes on Sunday, with the puck drop at 6:05, and the pregame on Country-600 CKAT at 5:35pm.
