day of mourning

Workers are getting hurt every day and there needs to be a change; that’s from Andreane Chenier, a CUPE Health and Safety Rep.

She spoke at the National Day of Mourning ceremony held at North Bay City Hall earlier today.

She says there are cases put on her desk everyday with issues that should not be taking place in a work environment.

She says “we have workers assaulted; we have workers who are put in the ICU for a week. We’ve had five CUPE members who have died across Canada this year, and it’s only April.”

Chenier says there needs to be a change in workplace policies that include better safety conditions for the employees. According to the Workplaces Safety and Insurance Board statistics, 389 families filed worker death claims.
