seniorsLocal seniors received some tips on Tuesday from the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre on mass marketing fraud and how to recognize it.  A senior support Volunteer with the centre’s senior buster program Ormond Carnegie says he’s tryng to teach seniors how to report fraud too so it is stopped. He says people should check their credit card and bank statements, don’t give out  personal information over the phone unless you initiate the call and he says do not carry your social insurance card with you. He says it’s important that people are aware of fraud.  Carnegie  says fraud is covered by the media and there is fraud awareness month in March but he hopes sessions like this will educate the seniors community.

He says scams are occurring every day. Later this month Carnegie will return to North Bay to talk about identity theft.
