vote

Council sent a letter to the provincial government last week asking them to look into the municipal voting by-laws.

The majority of Council voted in favour of sending this letter with the hope to allow permanent residents the right to vote in municipal elections.

Chair of Engineering and Works Tanya Vrebosch was one of two councilors who voted against sending the letter.

Vrebosch says voting is the right of a Canadian Citizen.

Vrebosch says this looks to be a bigger issue than just asking the government to say yes or no.

The issue resurfaced last night at Council, when a resident talked about her own journey to getting her Canadian citizenship.
