Ball Hockey

Families, friends and businesses all came out today for first ever YMCA Ball Hockey Tournament. The goal of the tournament is to raise money for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign. The Strong Kids Campaign’s goal is to raise funds for kids who can’t afford to go to the “Y”.

Louise Goulet is the fundraising coordinator at the YMCA and she says the idea for the event came when they wanted to involve families and businesses and bring everyone outdoors.

She says if you missed today’s event and you wish to donate, the YMCA has a golf tournament coming up on August the 10th, or you can donate directly at www.ymcanorthbay.com.

She says their goal this year is $1,000 and as of today, they are halfway towards meeting that goal.

Tom Welton is on the board for the YMCA and he says he was pleased to see the amount of age groups and thought everyone enjoyed themselves.

Summer in the Park wristbands are also being sold at the event and festival chair John Strang says 2,100 wristbands have been sold in advance, which is a jump from last year’s total at this time, 187.
