Labreche bus 1

Council has heard some backlash from residents of Labreche Drive over the last few weeks.

This all stemmed from the proposal to place a bus stop on Labreche Drive, but that proposal has been squashed.

Council instead changed the bus route to by-pass Labreche and instead travel down Marshall Park Drive, Marshall Avenue, Booth Road and Ashdale Crescent.

Councillor George Maroosis moved this option forward saying it makes the most sense for the area.

Meantime, he was asked if this will bring more residents to council regarding other proposed bus routes.

Maroosis went on to say they are making tweaks to the system all the time, and so if it makes sense Council should support it.

During the budget process council approved changes to the whole Transit Service, but have now made two adjustments before the new routes take effect on Sunday.

Council move sparks new opposition

bus stopMeantime, more residents are voicing concerns about a new transit route, this time on Ashdale Crescent and Bunting Drive.

This after council voted to switch-up a new bus route following plenty of opposition from residents on Labreche Drive.

The new route would now take the bus down Ashdale and Bunting.

Residents in that West Ferris neighbourhood have started a campaign with a Facebook page called “Ashdale and Bunting Unite! Say No To The Bus!”.

One administrator says there are industrial roads nearby that can serve as a bus turn around road rather than their residential street.

Everything from safety concerns to a loss of on-street parking and lack of notice to the fact there’s no sidewalks on Ashdale are cited in a petition, which officials say already has 125 signatures, as of Thursday night.

A presentation to council on Monday night is also being planned.
