City Hall2Council could have stricter timelines for future budget processes.

The budget policy review committee is working on when to place deadlines for the upcoming budget year.

Chair of the committee is Mayor Al McDonald.

He says they have to break down every aspect of the budget first before setting a deadline.

That includes seeing how the committees meet, when council can meet as a whole, when the Agencies Boards and Commissions will present and more.

One of the timelines already agreed upon include council passing 50% of the Capital budget in October.

The review committee has asked staff to now look at what time lines make sense when it comes to each business unit chair having their budget in place, and how many times council will meet as a whole to offer ideas on the budget.

The committee will then report the recommendations to council next month.

Meantime, the public could play a big role in this year’s budget.

McDonald says they want to have a public open house in the coming weeks.

He says an open house forum is a little more welcoming than presenting to council.
