All three city fire stations responded to a structure fire this morning (Friday) in a church building on the 300 block of McKenzie Avenue.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders details what crews found when they arrived on the scene.

There was no one inside at the time of the fire.

The call came in after 4 o’clock this morning.

Saunders says his crew did a great job in battling the blaze.

Saunders says it’s rare when they are able to save a church building.

Crews were sawing through the roof of a side building to get at the fire.

There’s no word on a cause.

This was the second structure fire city crews were called to this week.

There were no injuries, but a third floor apartment in the 400 block of Lakeshore Drive was gutted by fire around 1 am on Thursday morning.

Platoon Chief Mike Newman says they found light smoke outside when they arrived on the scene, pointing out everyone got out.

He says a working fire was found on the third floor and fire fighters were able to get it under control within several minutes.

The cause is accidental and is possibly smoking-related.

Damages are estimated around $70,000.
