Fire departmentFire Chief Grant Love brought forward some proposed changes to the city’s burning by-law.

He says the city would be divided between the settlement area and the rural area.

Love says in the settlement area you would be allowed to burn if you had an 18-foot clearance and were using a commercially prepared burning device.

Rural areas would be permitted to have either a recreational open air fire or a non-recreational open air fire.

He adds no matter where you are in the municipality you would be required to buy a permit for these different types of fires. The proposal has moved forward to the council level.

Love says the important thing remember is that right now there have been no changes and you can only burn in the rural area.
