Serran - Council Capsule Bringing in industry to North Bay was a major topic on today’s Council Capsule with Matthew Sookram.

His guest was Councillor Jeff Serran who said this is a priority for the city. He points to the Invest North Bay Economic Development Corporation as one way they are looking to bring in more businesses to the city.

There was also talk about the budget proposed by the Mayor a few weeks ago.

The starting tax levy increase would be 1.98% and Serran says that is a good starting point.

The public was asked to voice their concerns about water meter rates at last nights committee council meeting; and those concerns were discussed on Council Capsule this morning. Serran says the committee worked hard to get to a rate that people are starting to accept.

Meantime, there was also a discussion on the Casino proposal for North Bay. Serran says the owners are looking for space that could give them 10 acres of land. He says proposed sights have been near the North Bay Regional Health Centre or on Pinewood Park Drive.

Serran was asked if there was a preference to have a casino right in the middle of the city.
