NU lakersA solid lead from start to finish as the Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball team took on the York Lions last night.

Luck was not on the side of the Nipissing Lakers men’s basketball team last night.

With momentum on their side after some great road games, the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team won last night on home ice. 

It was the first OUA/CIS victory for Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball team, and it improved their record to 1-2.

The Lakers had an early lead at 11-8 and continues the momentum into the second quarter, as they increased their lead to 20-13. The Lions did edge the Lakers 15-14 in the third, but the Lakers returned the favor in the fourth, putting up 19 points for their 53-46 win.

Veteran guard Claire Abbott scored 24 points in 30 minutes, while Jamie Soffer added 10 points. Alexe Galipeau-Wilson added 10 and picked up 10 rebounds. The Lakers hope to keep the momentum going as they host the Queens Gaels tonight at the RJS Athletic Centre. Tip-off is 6pm

 

The Nipissing Lakers Men’s Basketball team’s homecoming game against the York Lions saw an impressive opening quarter, which then saw the Lions outscore the Lakers 20-12 in the second making the score 36-28. The Lions then put up 45 points in the third and the final quarters, winning the game.

Joey Puddister had the game high with 18 points for Nipissing, while Marcus Lewis had 11 and Jerron Rhodes added 10.

Up next for the team is another home game against the Queens Gaels. Game time, is 8pm.

 

The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team team edged the Ryerson Rams 4-3 Friday night, even though the Lakers were almost doubled in the amount of shots.

After the buzzer in the opening period, the game was tied at 0, even though the Rams outshot the Lakers 10-2.

The second period saw Nipissing score 3 times in a row while the third had the Rams take 17 shots at net, getting 2 past Kirk Rafuse, while the Lakers scored what would be the game winner.

At the end of the game, Kirk Rafuse made 33 saves in total.

This win makes 3 in a row for Nipissing, putting them in third place in the East Division. Next for the team is a battle against the Toronto Varsity Blues tonight at Memorial Gardens, Puck drop is set for 7pm.
