If a deal was not met between the province and Ontario’s correctional workers, the later would have gone on strike Sunday morning. Luckily, a tentative agreement was made

Mike Bisaillon is an Executive Board Member with OPSEU and he says they gave up their right to strike.

He says they were the only correctional officers in the country who had the right to strike. Bisaillon says the strike in general was helping to mobilize their members. He says there are still issues to be addressed, including under staffing and safety.

He says the strike wasn’t just about the contract; it was to make their issues known.

Bisaillon says there is some resentment after the province said there was no money, until there was a threat of an imminent strike.
