NU lakersBoth basketball teams and the women’s hockey team were in action last night.

In fact, the Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball team are competing in their final home weekend play of the season.

They unfortunately fell 83-59 to the Ottawa Gee Gees.

Ottawa started strong with a 28-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, and after that point it was all Gee Gees even though the Lakers were able to out shoot them in the final quarter.

Ottawa lead by 21 points at the end of the second and finished 63-40 in the third.

Claire Abbott put up 25 points in the loss while Alexe Galipeau-Wilson scored 12 points for the Lakers.

Marla Corney played for 12 minutes where she scored seven points.

The Lakers now host the Carlton Ravens tonight at the RJS Athletic Centre. Tip-off is 6pm

 

A tough loss for the Nipissing Lakers men’s basketball team last night.

They fell 74-49 to the Ottawa Gee Gees.

The Lakers hoped to end their season on a high note as they have not qualified for the playoffs this year.

The end of the first quarter saw the Lakers losing 20-10.

Nipissing then dropped the lead to 22-20 leading into halftime.

The third period saw the momentum drop as the Gee Gees were still in the lead 60-39.

And thus lead the Lakers to their loss to Ottawa.

Kalil Langston was the top scorer for the Lakers making 11 shots, Joey Puddister added nine and Jordan Roberts picked up eight in the game.

Next up for the boys are the Carleton Ravens tonight.

Tip-off is set for 8pm at the RJS Athletic Centre.

 

It was a scary game for fans of the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team.

The Lakers scored 3 goals early in the game, looking to beat the Queens Gaels. However the Gaels fought back scoring 2 goals before the final buzzer.

Jade Gauthier scored one goal for Nipissing while Carly Marchment made the other two.

Jackie Rochefort made 28 saves in the game.

The Lakers now wait to see who their second round opponent will be.

Rumors have it that they will be hosting Wednesday’s game at Memorial Gardens. Stay tunes for more.
