Canadore facilityStudents from Canadore College will be heading to northern First Nations communities, for the third consecutive year.

Six students will be going to the communities including Moose Factory, Moosonee and Fort Albany.

While there they will be working with at risk youth.

The students will be at the schools fostering leadership and making students aware of high risk issues like suicide, bullying and addictions.

Vice president Shawn Chorney says it’s important for the students to see there are 3rd world conditions in Canada.

The students are from several programs at the college including Indigenous Wellness and Addictions Prevention, Mental Health and Addiction Worker, Practical Nursing, Police Foundations, Community and Justice Services and Environmental Technician.

Chorney says students have received training on cultural sensitivity and native language in preparation for the trip.
