Lakers sign a player and have a rookie recognized

The Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team is already looking ahead to next year by announcing a recent signing.

Hunter Mosher, a forward from Chetwynd B.C. has signed on with the Lakers.

She is a graduate of the Northern Capitals from Prince George.

Mosher says “I am a power forward that plays a physical, fast, and gritty game. I am a strong skater and a hard worker.” She adds “My expectations for myself are to find chemistry among teammates and learn to play at the next level of hockey. I’m looking to be presence and looking to contribute to the team being as successful as they have shown this year.”

She’s also a two-time B.C. Champion, B.C. Cup Champion and was an alternate player on Team B.C. in 2015.

This season; Mosher had eight goals and six assists, coming off a big year when she had 14 goals and 14 assists, good for 28 points in 30 games in 2014-15.

In her three years in the BCFMAAA, Mosher has 25 goals, 23 assists, 48 points and 98 penalty minutes in 86 games.

Meantime, after a solid first season, defenseman Stacy Henshaw was named to the OUA all-rookie team.

It’s the third straight year a member of the Lakers has earned this designation.

Henshaw finished the year with four goals and three assists, good for seven points, playing in 19 games.

Henshaw says “It feels like an accomplishment. I’m honoured the league recognized my season,” she said. I had some setbacks, but I felt good about my season overall. It was a good first year with a great program.”

She added “I really want to thank my teammates and Turk (Lakers head coach Darren Turcotte) for all they’ve done for me in helping me earn this award.”
