The president of CUPE Ontario says privatization of Cassellholme has been talked about in the community in secret by area politicians.

Fred Hahn says the information is uncovered in a freedom of information request they filed and now the board has received a consultants report calling for Casselholme to become a non profit.

Hahn says although that sounds good enough it could impact the home in a negative way because municipal funding wouldn’t contribute to it as is the case now.

He says municipal homes have a higher standard of care and more staff to take care of residents.

Hahn says any discussion on the future of Cassellholme being privately run should be done more publicly.

Board Chair Chris Mayne says there is no consideration being given to privatize Cassellholme and if they go the non profit route municipalities would still contribute to the home for up to 20 years.

He says any board decision won’t be made until June and then the province will make the final decision on Cassellholme becoming a non profit.
