North Bay Police

A targeted traffic enforcement was put into effect this morning by the North Bay Police Service’s traffic officer, working with patrol officers.

The enforcement was located on the Cst. Fred Lefebvre overpass.

33 speeding tickets were issued as well as three 72-hour notices for documentation. That means those drivers have 72 hours to show police their insurance card or driver’s permit.

The highest speed on the overpass was 79 kilometers an hour. The speed limit is 50.

Police are warning the public about a cheque in the mail scam in the area.

The letter addressed the resident informs them that they are the winner of a $600,000 US grand prize from Publishers Clearing House.

In the envelope is a cheque for $9000. Police advise that if you see this letter, destroy it and do not respond.

A second letter scam has been reported to the North Bay Police.

The letter claims that the resident may be receiving millions of dollars in inheritance because they’re last name matches that of a recently deceased millionaire.

If you receive this letter, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by phone (1-888-495-8501) or their website.
