The North Bay Fire Department responded to 2 separate fires in the span of 48 hours.

One of those fires was located on the 200 block of First Avenue East.

Platoon Chief Al Stankus says both the smoke and flames from the rooming house were visible upon their arrival.

He says there were reports of a woman trapped inside the building, but after a search, crews found no one in the building.

Stankus says the fire damage was substantial with most of the harm done to the second floor.

There were no injuries, and an investigation into a cause is ongoing.

Meantime a bush fire was getting close to a house before crews arrived. Stankus says the fire was put out without any damage to the home.

However the son of the owner inhaled smoke after trying to put it out.

He says it’s believed the fire was caused by an open flame that got out of hand.
