restore your shore

The Restore Your Shore planting program is being expanded, thanks to new funding.

Conservation Authority Communications Supervisor Sue Buckle says it initially only involved the Callander-Wasi watershed, with 36 property owners protecting their watercourses last year.

Close to two kilometres of shorelines and streambanks were planted with more than 5,000 trees, shrubs and perennials.

The program now includes the entire North Bay-Mattawa Watershed.

The goal is to see another 30 property owners get involved this year.

Plants along shorelines and streambanks help prevent erosion, enhance fish habitat and prevent the addition of phosphorus to waterways.
