Concern expressed Monday night at the city council meeting about the future of Summer In The Park.

One Councillor, Tanya Vrebosch asked whether the event is at risk, or not.

Fellow Councillor Jeff Serran is on the Summer In the Park committee and said it was a fair question.

He says festivals like this one are put on for the public and if people don’t support it and don’t buy wrist bands then they do run the risk of losing it.

Having said that, Serran says they have a top notch event but people need to purchase wrist bands to make it all work.

Vrebosch says if they keep seeing the event decline in support from the city and outlying areas, the event will be in jeopardy.

She says council is behind the event and she hopes in future years the community will do the same.

Wrist bands are $35 dollars each until Canada Day when the cost will rise to $50.

The three day event features Hedley, Coleman Hell and Ria Mae on Friday July 29th, Tim Hicks, Kiefer Sutherland and Cory Marquardt on Saturday July 30th and Michael White and The White with the Led Zeppelin Ultimate Experience on Sunday July 31st.

Serran says at the last committee meeting wrist band sales were around the same as last year.
