Employment and unemployment both up a bit in the area

The latest employment figures are in for the area.

Both employment and unemployment were up locally last month.

Stats Canada reports employment was at 56.4 per cent in May.

That’s up 2.3 per cent from the same month last year.

Meantime, the jobless figure was 7.7 per cent last month.

That’s up half a per cent from May 2015.

However, it’s within the standard error so it’s not deemed statistically significant.

The figures include the City of North Bay, Callander, East Ferris and Bonfield.
