The revamped Spring Bear Hunt pilot project is underway and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is clearing up some misconceptions.

Senior Wildlife Biologist Mark Ryckman says there have been some very vocal opponents of the hunt and says there’s been some misinformation too.

He says if the Federation had any influence on the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, it wouldn’t have taken 17 years for the hunt to return.

Meantime, he says there are plenty of benefits with the hunt, including the economic and human-wildlife conflict benefits, recreational opportunities and more.

Ryckman says once the five year pilot is over in 2020, they’ll be pushing for a permanent hunt.
