rain garden

A new rain garden is being grown at the North Bay and District Humane Society.

It’s being built by Greening Nipissing.

The organization received a 5 Thousand Dollar donation on Wednesday from the RBC Blue Water project.

The cheque was delivered by the branch manager at the bank’s Stockdale Road location Andrew Cliffe.

He says RBC believes in sustaining water use for today as well as the future.

Vijanti Ramlogan Murphy of Greening Nipissing says the idea behind the rain garden is to divert storm water run off.

She says the water stays on site and doesn’t divert away.

Ramlogan Murphy says the rain garden will hold the water for up to 2 days so it doesn’t run off into lakes and rivers.

She says they have other rain gardens at the Crisis Centre Administration Building, two across from city hall and the other on the eco path near Amelia Park.

Ramlogan Murphy says it will be up to the humane society staff to determine what to grow in the garden.
