Capitol Centre

The Capitol Centre is getting ready for a busy fall line-up.

One of the events before the October 9th season opener with Burton Cummings is the inaugural Blues Fest.

The open air concert is fully licensed and will be taking place in the parking lot outside the Capitol Centre September 17th.

General Manager Dee Adrian says it’s a form of tourism to bring people into the city, pointing out their goal is to grow the event so the community has another big festival. “This year we launched the Children’s Festival, a lot of us are very involved with Summer In The Park and now we have our Blues Fest. I think it’s a case of growing all of this bigger and better so that our community too, becomes known as a festival community.”

Eight-time harmonica Player of the year award winner Carlos del Junco is headlining the event.

Kicking off the line is a full line-up including Jake Thomas and Danny B as well as The J Houston Band with more to be announced.

Meantime, Adrian says one of their main fundraisers has been rebranded from the Wine Gala to Hops and Vines, to be more reflective of the craft beers that have become a big part of the event too. “It’s the 20th annual and we have Jarvis Church, who’s also the lead singer of Philosopher Kings, as well as Soul Station, coming in to do his suave, elegant, rhythm and blues.”

Hops and Vines goes November 5th.

Tickets are on sale now.
