The Ministry of Transportation has just started work on a two phase project that won’t be finished until 2018.

Regional Issues and Media Advisor Gordon Rennie says the project will rehabilitate Highway 17b (west end of Main Street West) from Highway 17 West to the city boundary at Duchesnay Creek.

He says phase 1 is the relocation of the sewer service that is attached to the Duchesnay Creek bridge.

Rennie says Fowler Construction has been awarded the half Million Dollar project.

Phase 2 will include the replacement of the Duchesnay Creek bridge and the rehabilitation of the highway resulting in a closure of the highway from May to October 2018.

Before that, the abandoned CN Railway bridge will be removed next year as it is not being used and so the highway will be closed.

Traffic destined for Main Street West will be re-directed via Gormanville Road during the closure.

Rennie says the tender for phase 2 will go out next year.
