A host of Labour issues will be the focus at the 10th annual Labour Day picnic.

The free event is hosted each year by the North Bay and District Labour Council at the Waterfront, with activities for families and a free bbq.

In terms of issues, Labour Council President Henri Giroux says fairness is a dominating theme, but also the Canada Pension Plan. “we have some promises from the Liberal government now that they look forward to moving on that and we look forward to seeing what comes out.”

Other issues include, changes to the Employment Standard Act, reforms to the Labour law coming up and more, “asbestos was one of the issues where we’re trying to get the government to put regulations in place where it would ban asbestos in Canada”, says Giroux.

He points out other countries have that in place.

In terms of today’s picnic, it gets started with a parade of flags at 11 am.

The event wraps up at 4 pm.

There will inflatable slides and castles, climbing wall, face painting, live music, fish pond, and the BBQ, pop, and cake.
