There’s still a lot of road left to travel, but efforts are underway to get a motorsports facility up and running in the Almaguin area.

Spokesperson Jeff Collison says they’re looking at all types of motorsports, everything from drag racing to ATV dirt racing and everything in between, including car shows, festivals and concerts.

He says, “it’s really going to draw in a lot of people.”

Collison says they’ve met with Central Almaguin Economic Development officials and are now focusing on fundraising, going after grants and gaining support for the endeavor.

The property they’re looking at is in Joly Township.

Collison says they’re optimistic the initiative could bring in jobs and enthusiasts from all parts of the province, “the location itself is closer to the southern area, like Toronto and Barrie.  But, it’s still close enough that it’ll bring in Sudbury, Ottawa, the Sault, Timmins.  There’s literally racing enthusiasts from all over Ontario and it’s by the thousands.”

He also points out they want to give back to the community through the venture.

According to the Canadian Motorsports Facebook page, the hope is to start building next year.
