cutting of the cake

The kickoff for this years CIBC Run For The Cure was held on Monday.

The Run goes at the North Bay Waterfront on Sunday, October 2nd with a few events this week, during Think Pink week.

They include Think Pink Day on Friday, where people are encouraged to wear pink and a Stand Up Comedy event on Friday at the Davedi Club.

Co-run Director Melanie Gainforth says this is the 12th year they’ve held a North Bay event and it’s the banks 20th year of involvement.

She says people get involved because they want to make a difference in fighting breast cancer.

Gainforth says 1 in 9 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada and so many of the banks employees know someone who has dealt with breast cancer either through work of family.

She says last year they raised $66,000 and surpassed the $1-million total in the 11 previous North Bay events.

General Manager of the Main Street CIBC branch Alfredo Ricciuti says supporting breast cancer research is a big deal at the bank as they have many activities leading up to the Run For The Cure including a garage sale, a spaghetti supper and a dress down day in addition to the Davedi Club event.
