MPP Vic Fedeli says households in northern Ontario aren’t being treated fairly under the province’s energy system.

He says the Financial Accountability Officer’s latest report shows that between 2012 and 2014, households in the north paid over 25% more in home energy costs than households in Toronto.

When looking only at electricity households in Northern Ontario paid over 45% more.

Fedeli also questioned the government over the reliability of the system, pointing out Lake Talon residents were impacted by a 25-day outage this spring but were still forced to pay the Delivery Charge for power they never received.

“We were aware that the entire province is in the midst of a hydro crisis, but the Financial Accountability Officer’s report reveals the shocking disproportionately negative impact the Wynne government’s energy policies are having on Northern Ontario,” said Fedeli.
