The future of the Dionne Quints Museum was a hot topic at city council last night.

The city issued a statement saying they are involved in a formal process regarding the transfer of the Dionne Home, but it is their intent to keep the home in the region.

The city also indicated in a media release it wouldn’t be saying any more so they wouldn’t hinder the process.

At the council meeting, there was a presentation from Jeff Fournier who started a petition with the goal of keeping everything in the museum in 1 location.

He says he has 1,800 signatures on the petition.

At the meeting, Councillor Mark King says the city will do the right thing.

Fournier was asked if he felt better about the museum’s future after hearing that at the meeting.

He says he appreciates the comment, but he’s heard different things including possibility a statue of the Quints being erected and the fact the home would be sold without all the artifacts intact.

But, he says those are just rumours.

Fournier also wants the Dionne Homestead to be declared heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act and he wants the city’s help to make that happen.
