The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit has confirmed a black legged tick has tested positive for the bacteria that can cause Lyme Disease.

The black legged tick was found embedded in someone’s skin and was submitted for testing.

The health unit points out these ticks are not common for our area but do travel on migratory birds.

In a release, the unit says the Lyme Disease risk is low.

The health unit says there have 5 cases within the unit’s jurisdiction in the last five years and three of them were travel related.

8 of 9 black legged ticks that have been sent for testing have come back negative for Lyme Disease.
