Noelville OPP is asking the public to avoid unnecessary 9-1-1 calls.

They say they received 133 of these calls this year as of the end of October.

They point out 81 per cent of them were of a non emergent nature and were either pocket-dials, accidental dials or children playing with phones.

The Noelville OPP points out 9-1-1 is for emergencies only.

Police say if they receive a 9-1-1 call they respond because it indicates there is an emergency and an unnecessary call puts a burden on their resources and could prevent a speedy response to a real emergency.
