A city couple is thinking about taking an Alaskan Cruise or a trip to San Diego after winning a contest through Food Basics.

Linda Turcotte entered a contest explaining what she would do with the savings, if they didn’t have to buy groceries for a year, saying she would spend the money on a 50th wedding anniversary honeymoon vacation.

After being told they won a $250 gift card, Linda and her husband Roger were surprised at the Food Basics on Cassells Street with $5,000 for a trip.

Turcotte says she’s very excited and very happy.

The couple donated the gift card value by paying for grocery items for the North Bay Food Bank including rice, pasta and canned goods.

Jocelyn Martineau, Manager of Communications for Metro Ontario, says they got 900 submissions and there were 7 winners.

She says they wanted to spend some of their marketing budget on their customers.
