North Bay Battalion goaltender Julien Sime made 35 saves to shutout the visiting Flint Firebirds 6-0 last night (Thursday) at Memorial Gardens.

It was his first career OHL shutout.

Justin Brazeau had two goals for North Bay while Brett McKenzie’s shorthanded marker early in the first stood up as the game winner.

Steve Harland, Daniil Vertiy and Kyle Potts also scored for North Bay.

Meantime, the game marked the return of former Assistant Coach Ryan Oulahen, who is now the bench boss in Flint.

Troops Head Coach Stan Butler says coaching against his former assistant was a little surreal, but he’s proud him.

Butler says he had no doubt Oulahen was going to be a great coach and he’s well on his way to showing that.

Tonight, the Battalion visit Oshawa, broadcast time is 7:25 pm on Country 600 CKAT.

The North Bay Midget AAA Trappers opened the Gold Cup Tournament in Waterloo with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Toronto Titans last night.

After finding themselves down 3-1, the Trappers would score the next three goals to win the game.

Cole Craft, Ryan Mills, Payton Vescio and Dylan Bond scored for North Bay.

The Trappers play twice today, at noon against the Toronto Marlies and then at 5:45 against the Grey Bruce Highlanders.

Their 4th game is tomorrow (Sat) at 1:45 pm against the Quinte Red Devils.
