The chair of Engineering and Works Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says there have been 18 water main breaks since December in North Bay.

She points out 12 of them were last month and 4 were due to mechanical issues and not weather related.

Vrebosch says it’s nowhere near last year as there was more concern at that point about the amount of frost built up in the pipes.

She says these numbers aren’t concerning as there are usually water main breaks when the frost arrives and during the spring thaw too.

Vrebosch says the city has done a good job in letting people know about each individual water main break and that might me why some think there have been more breaks.

Meantime, she says the overpass project is going well on Lakeshore Drive.

Vrebosch says the project will take most of the year to finish.

She says with the traffic improvements they’ve made because of the lane reductions the situation is working very well.
