Two commendations were handed out at Wednesday’s Police Services Board meeting: one to resident Robyn Colvin and the other to Constable Randy Adair.

On July 13th last year, Colvin saw a woman struggling in the water at the Lake Nipissing access point near Thompson Avenue.

She called 911 and before police arrived ventured out in the water and began the rescue herself.

Robyn says when she got to the woman she was face down, so she flipped her over.

That’s when city police Constable Randy Adair came to help with the rescue.

The woman was taken back to shore safely and made a full recovery.

It turns out the woman had swallowed a large quantity of anti-depressants and some alcohol.

Constable Adair wanted Colvin recognized for what she did.

He says officers appreciate the help they get from the community because they can’t do it all by themselves.
