Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives are calling for a moratorium on school closures in the province and a review of the guidelines that determine them.
PC Leader Patrick Brown says school closures have a devastating impact on their communities.
“After 13 years of waste and mismanagement, the Wynne Liberals are trying to pay for the mistakes on the backs of students. This cannot continue,” he said.
Premier Kathleen Wynne notes those decisions are made by school boards, but says the government has urged the boards to think twice before closing schools.
An Accommodations Review is underway involving six North Bay schools at the Near North Board, including Chippewa, West Ferris and Widdifield.
