Nipissing First Nation’s Matthew Penasse is competing at the World Figure Skating Championship in Helsinki, Finland.

He skates for Finland and is entered in the pairs competition today with Emilia Simonen, who’s grandparents competed in pairs skating back in the 1950s and were National Champions.

The ISU website also says the two teamed up in summer 2016 and are the first Finnish Pairs Skaters to compete at the World Championship since 1983.

The pairs short program is taking place today.
