A 25th place performance in the short program for Nipissing First Nation’s Matthew Penasse and his partner Emilia Simonen in pairs competition at the World Figure Skating Championships in Finland.

They were skating for the host country in the event.

Only the top 16 teams qualified for the free skate final on Thursday.

The ISU website also says the Penasse and Simonen teamed up in summer 2016 and are the first Finnish Pairs Skaters to compete at the World Championship since 1983.

Simonen’s grandparents competed in pairs skating back in the 1950s and were National Champions.
