April 3rd to 9th proclaimed Canadore College Week

Canadore College Week is underway in the City of North Bay.

Mayor Al McDonald (pictured above) made that proclamation this morning (Monday) as the college celebrates it’s 50th anniversary.

McDonald says there are plenty of benefits to the college being here, including the annual influx of students.

“4,500 of them come into our community and spend a lot of money. The fact that we’re proud of what they (Canadore) do, of the courses that they provide and they’re training our future leaders in business and industry,” he says.

Canadore Vice President Enrolment Management, Indigenous and Student Services, Shawn Chorney (pictured below) says several events are planned, including a series of videos, exhibits, special events and a full week of community service in the fall.

“Every single student and employee of Canadore, over the course of a week, will get out into the community and do community-based projects. It doesn’t matter if it’s painting a fence or reading to children, we’re going to get out in big forces to volunteer through our volunteers program,” he added.

Canadore has more than 4,500 students from around the world studying in over 75 programs and is approaching 50,000 alumni.
