A big jump in unemployment in the area in March, compared to the same month last year.

Stats Canada reports the jobless figure was 8.3 per cent.

That’s up from 5 per cent in March 2016 and is over and above the standard error of 1.8.

Employment, meantime, was also up nearly three per cent to 54.2.

There were 2,700 more people in the Labour Force this year.

The figures include the City of North Bay, Callander, East Ferris and Bonfield.
